The country celebrates the successfulflush out ofIndian militants from southern Bhutan in 2003 through this festival.

The Dochula tsechu, which takes place onDecember 13, was an initiative of Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to honour the courageous service of the Fourth King, who led the troops against the insurgents, and the Bhutanese soldiers.

The festival is held in front of the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang built over four years (2004-2008).It is located at Dochula Pass, about 22km from the capital city Thimphu and is one of the most scenic locations in the country.
